As of August 3rd, 2017, The New York Times has added NYT VR available on the Oculus store for Gear VR, also available on iPhone and Android devices. This adds a new layer for them to express specific news and content through the VR landscape.
There are certain stories from the wars in the middle east to NASA’s space exploration that can be much more impactful when shown through the lens of virtual reality and 360 video, and it’s exciting that the New York Times has started to officially capitalize on it.
We all know VR takes immersion to another level, so it’s only fitting that a mainstream news outlet is starting to get its feet wet with specific VR related content. It wouldn’t be surprising if more news outlets started doing the same.
