Every VR enthusiast knows it’s only a matter of time before virtual reality will go completely wireless and HTC seems to be the first on the list.
In a recent article by Lucas Matney, the HTC Vive will be making a splash on the Chinese markets first. Oculus announced it will have a cheaper wireless HMD coming sometime in 2018 but HTC has plans to release a wireless Vive in China potentially by the end of 2017.
China’s adoption of VR exceeds that of North America and Europe so it makes sense for HTC to release it there first. Predictions of when wireless VR will become available to the broader markets isn’t confirmed but if Oculus plans to release wireless VR in 2018, HTC will no doubt be doing the same.
Having China as a test market should give HTC an advantage, but at the end of the day competition between both brands will be good for consumers and hopefully cheaper, slimmer, faster hardware comes from it.
