Meta Quest 4: Release Date, Price, Specs, and Everything We Know

There is no Meta Quest 4 yet: Meta has not announced one, showed no new Quest at Connect on September 23, 2026, and has given no price or release date. Reporting based on internal Meta memos puts a gaming-focused Quest 4 in late 2027 at the earliest, possibly 2028, and no credible outlet has reported a price, although the same memos say Meta wants the headset to "significantly improve unit economics." Meta's other next-generation headset did arrive: the ultralight device reported as Puffin and then Phoenix was announced as Meta VR Glasses, at $1,299.99 for spring 2027. This page separates what Meta has confirmed from what has been reported and what is only rumor, with a source and a date for every claim.

Is there a Quest 4?
Confirmed: not as a product. Meta has not announced a headset called Quest 4, and what it has confirmed is only that more headsets are coming. In an interview with journalist Alex Heath at Davos, reported by UploadVR on February 10, 2026, CTO Andrew Bosworth said: "I think it's officially leaked we've got two devices on the roadmap that we're super excited about coming out over the course of a period of time." Asked "Did you guys give up on VR?" in an Instagram Q&A covered by UploadVR on July 9, he answered that "we're building multiple next-generation headsets" and told followers to "stay tuned for Connect."
Connect delivered one of the two. Meta VR Glasses are the ultralight, puck-tethered headset that reporting had followed since 2024, and Meta's own recap of the show lists them alongside Muse, Ray-Ban Meta Audio and Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3), with no Quest anywhere. On stage, Bosworth played a hands-only Beat Saber and said "VR gaming is alive and well on Meta VR glasses," as Hypergrid Business reported. VR.org has found no on-record Meta comment about the second headset since the keynote.
Quest 4 release date: late 2027 at the earliest, by the reporting
Confirmed: nothing. Meta has given no date, no window and no year.
Reported: the expected date has moved every time the plan changed. The table follows it from the first leak to Connect.

How the reported Quest 4 plan changed, oldest first. None of these dates came from Meta.
The sources behind those rows are UploadVR's 2024 summary of The Information's roadmap report, UploadVR on the Pismo cancellations, the Business Insider memo report with UploadVR's and Road to VR's write-ups, UploadVR in February, Road to VR in March and UploadVR in July.
The outlets do not agree on how late. UploadVR's first reading of the December memos said a traditional Quest 4 would follow the ultralight headset "perhaps in the second half or in 2028." Its February and July pieces say late 2027 at the earliest, and Road to VR in March said sometime in 2027. UploadVR adds its own warning that "Meta's plans and schedules constantly shift."
Analysis: Quest 2 shipped in October 2020, Quest 3 in October 2023 and Quest 3S in October 2024. A Quest 4 in late 2027 would land four years after Quest 3, the longest gap between flagship Quests so far. Quest 3, Quest 3S and VR Glasses all got their prices and launch timing at a September Connect keynote, so Connect 2027 is the obvious stage for a reveal, but no report has said so.
Quest 4 price: nobody has reported a number
Confirmed: there is no Quest 4 price. What Meta has confirmed is the direction of its current prices. Meta raised Quest prices on April 19, 2026: Quest 3 (512GB) from $499.99 to $599.99, Quest 3S (128GB) from $299.99 to $349.99, and Quest 3S (256GB) from $399.99 to $449.99. It blamed a global surge in the price of memory chips. Meta VR Glasses, announced in September, cost $1,299.99.
Reported: the December 2025 memos say the new Quest should "significantly improve unit economics." UploadVR reads that as a headset built "without subsidization, suggesting a notably higher price." After talking to Bosworth at Connect, The Ghost Howls' Antony Vitillo wrote that Meta had noticed "the sales of Quest 3S were not many more than the ones of Quest 3," and concluded that "people are ok paying for a premium to have a more comfortable device with better visuals." That is Vitillo's account of a conversation about why Meta built VR Glasses, not a Meta statement about the Quest 4.
Rumor: an $800 figure appears across Quest 4 roundups, but VR.org could not trace it to any primary report. The Gadgeteer, for example, attributes it only to "some rumors."
Analysis: every signal points above the $599.99 Quest 3, and none of them gives a number. Meta's own price list now runs from $349.99 for Quest 3S to $1,299.99 for VR Glasses, and Valve's Steam Frame starts at $1,059. Where a gaming Quest 4 would land on that ladder has not been reported.
Quest 4 specs and design: what has been reported
Confirmed: nothing. Meta has published no spec sheet, render or photo, so any "Quest 4" image online is a mockup.
Reported: the December 2025 memos, as Road to VR summarized them, describe a headset that will focus on immersive gaming and bring a "large upgrade" in capabilities. That is the extent of the published memo text on the hardware. The codename Griffin comes from Quest firmware, via UploadVR in February.
Reported, disputed: displays. OLED-Info reported on December 3, 2025 that Meta would adopt OLED microdisplays from BOE's BMOT unit and Seeya for its next Quest headset, while conceding that "this could be the Meta Quest 4 headset (slated for 2026), or it could be a premium edition of the Quest 4." On June 4, 2026 it reported that Meta would likely delay that headset to 2027. Then Meta VR Glasses arrived for spring 2027 on dual 2412 x 2288 OLED microdisplays. The public reporting does not settle whether the BOE and Seeya order was for the gaming Quest 4 or for VR Glasses. Panel sizes and resolutions that circulate for a Quest 4 sit behind OLED-Info's paywall or on aggregator sites, and cannot be checked.
The glasses-like design that ran through two years of reporting belonged to the ultralight headset, not the gaming one. In June 2025 UploadVR relayed The Information's description of Puffin as "a bulky pair of glasses" weighing under 110 grams, with the battery and computing hardware in a tethered puck. That device is now Meta VR Glasses. No outlet has published a weight target, chip, field of view or input scheme for the gaming Quest 4.

How Meta VR Glasses change the picture
Meta's announcement puts Meta VR Glasses on sale in spring 2027 for $1,299.99. The glasses weigh about 100 grams, which Meta says is five times lighter than Quest 3, and Road to VR puts the compute puck at about 300 grams, running Qualcomm's Snapdragon Reality Elite with 12GB of RAM. The field of view is 70 degrees horizontal by 66 vertical. Controllers are sold separately, and UploadVR reports the puck runs the same operating system as Quest 3 and supports the same content. Some coverage treated them as the Quest 4 anyway. GamesRadar ran its Connect story on September 24 under the headline "The Meta Quest 4 isn't a Meta Quest at all." The reporting does not support merging the two. The December 2025 memos described the ultralight headset and a gaming-focused Quest as separate projects, and Bosworth has spoken of two devices. Meta has not said whether its gaming headset will be called Quest 4.
Analysis: VR Glasses also look little like the gaming brief. Controllers are optional, and the view is 70 degrees wide against about 110 on Quest 3. They change the Quest 4 picture in two ways. They show where Meta chose to spend first: comfort, media and a premium price, ahead of a gaming flagship. And they put a second reference point on Meta's price list, so a gaming Quest 4 would sit somewhere between a $599.99 Quest 3 and $1,299.99 VR Glasses, or above both, with no report yet saying which.
Should you wait for the Quest 4?
Analysis: for most people, no. The Quest 4 is unannounced, the earliest reported window is more than a year away, and every pricing signal points up. Quest 3S costs $349.99 with 128GB or $449.99 with 256GB, and Quest 3 costs $599.99 with 512GB. Both run the same library, and UploadVR reports that controllers from an existing Quest 3 or Quest 3S will pair with Meta VR Glasses, so neither is a dead end. Waiting makes sense in two cases. If you mostly want movies, sports and comfort, Meta VR Glasses are the dated option, in spring 2027. If you want the best gaming headset Meta will make and can live without VR until 2027 or later, the Quest 4 is the one to wait for, at a price nobody has reported.
